Bookings

February 2, 2010 by ken

Enquiries from couples getting married in 2010 are beginning to come in with a noticeable shift towards the budget end of our pricing unfortunately, one or two enquiries are from couples who booked with other photographers only to find that they have gone out of business.
All professional photographers are in business to make a profit so if you book a photographer who offers an all in package at a very low price the chances are they will not be around when the big day arrives this is especially true at this time of year as the Inland Revenue want their slice of the cake in full before the 31st of January so couples expecting everything for low low prices should be wary.
Another noticeable trend this year, more couples are booking their wedding during the winter months the explanation for this being that honeymoons trips are cheaper and after the severe weather conditions experienced this year couples are wanting to get away from it all next winter.

It is essential when booking a wedding photographer that you book the right one, you must feel at ease with them, you will only get one chance to get things right on the day.
Your choice of photographer must be confident about what they do, experience is everything in the world of wedding photography, they must be able to get the best out of situations where the lighting is bad or the guests are camera shy, below are some tips to help you make the correct choice.

1. View their portfolio to see the picture quality and that their style of framing the photographs is what you are looking for. Make sure they show you lots of different photos from many different weddings and ask to see a complete example from one wedding, as its easy to select a couple of good photo’s from say 20 weddings to fill a portfolio but  harder to bluff a complete wedding album.
2. A local photographer will know all the churches and venues in your area this will be an advantage as they know the best locations for taking the best picture.
3. Does your photographer belong to a trade body such as the SWPP (Society of Wedding and Portrait Photographers) they offer photographers self improvement mentoring and training programes.
4. Does your photographer have professional equipment and spares in case of breakdowns and do they have insurance to cover the cost of a second shoot in case of a problem caused by them.
5. A reputable photographer will have a website this is a great way of viewing your pictures on line and making your final choice for your album.
6. Provide your photographer with a list of required photographs, and designate the bestman or usher to round up people for the photographs (the photographer won’t know who uncle tom etc is).
7. Photography is a popular hobby but don’t be tempted by offers from a friend to do the wedding photographs they may have a professional looking camera but wedding photography is more about the person behind the camera, we know of lots of professional photographers who won’t take a wedding booking because of the demands required.
8. The most important tip of all have a great time wear a big smile, its your day, many wedding suppliers will be doing their bit to ensure it goes smoothly.
